
Pekanbaru, 22 October 2025 — The commitment of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Riau (FISIP UNRI), to advancing environmental studies was once again demonstrated through the organization of The 3rd International Symposium on Environmental and Energy Policy (ISEEP 2025) at Pangeran Hotel Pekanbaru. The symposium brought together experts from various countries to discuss human ecology from the perspectives of social sciences and the humanities.
With the theme “Human Ecology: Social and Human Sciences,” ISEEP 2025 positioned the interaction between humans, society, and the environment as its central issue. This approach is considered crucial for understanding global challenges, including climate change, social inequality, and sustainable resource governance.

In a written address from the Rector of Universitas Riau, delivered by the Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Information Systems, FISIP UNRI was commended for its consistency in raising strategic global issues. The symposium was highlighted as an important moment for expanding international scientific networks and strengthening Universitas Riau’s contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Dean of FISIP UNRI, Dr. Meyzi Heriyanto, emphasized that this event reflects the faculty’s strong commitment to developing research and policies related to human ecology. He underscored the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration to produce solutions that are just, inclusive, and sustainable. The six subthemes presented in the symposium provided space for diverse perspectives within social sciences and public policy.
ISEEP 2025 featured keynote speakers from Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, and the United States. They offered strategic insights on issues ranging from climate change and social equity to environmental governance. Their contributions enriched the academic discussions and broadened participants’ understanding of multidimensional problems.
The symposium received significant support from PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional RU II Sungai Pakning as the main sponsor, UIN Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau as co-host, and the Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) of Universitas Riau. This collaboration showcased the strong synergy between universities, government, and industry in advancing human ecology–based research.
The Chair of ISEEP 2025, Dr. Mita Rosaliza, expressed that the successful implementation of this international symposium was the result of collective efforts involving committee members, lecturers, administrative staff, students, and institutional partners. She hopes the event will foster long-term research collaborations and expand FISIP UNRI's academic networks globally.
This scientific forum aligns with the strategic direction of Asta Cita 2024–2029, which emphasizes the role of higher education institutions in contributing to the SDGs. ISEEP 2025 is expected to serve as a platform for generating innovative policies and collaborative research capable of responding to future environmental and social challenges.
