FISIP Unri Holds a Screening of the Docudrama “Tentang Mengerti” to Strengthen Academic Synergy and Student Creativity

The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of Universitas Riau continues to reaffirm its commitment to supporting student creativity and producing works that are relevant to current social issues. On Wednesday (10/9/2025), through the Lancang Kuning Team, FISIP Unri held a screening of the docudrama “Tentang Mengerti” at the FISIP Graduate Building, PDAP 2 room. This activity is part of the faculty’s preparation for the 2025 Student Digital Innovation Competition (LIDM) organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology.

The docudrama “Tentang Mengerti” highlights mental health issues, focusing on the phenomenon of overthinking commonly experienced by university students. The story follows a young student living away from home who manages to break free from overthinking with the help of supportive friends. Beyond entertainment, the film also serves as an educational medium aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Goal 3 on good health and well-being. The screening was also held in conjunction with World Suicide Prevention Day, further emphasizing the urgency of the issue addressed.

The event was attended by the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Collaboration of FISIP UNRI, Dr. Saiman Pakpahan, S.IP., M.Si., along with lecturers from the Communication Science Department, students, the campus press, and partners from Ruang Jiwa. In his remarks, Dr. Saiman expressed his appreciation for the students’ consistency in creating meaningful work. He emphasized that LIDM serves not only as a competition platform but also as a space to nurture talent, creativity, and real contributions that benefit both students and the wider community.

The Head of the Multimedia Laboratory of Communication Science, Dr. Chelsy Yesicha, S.Sos., M.I.Kom., stated that the docudrama reflects the students’ ability to produce relevant and high-quality content. Meanwhile, the LIDM Coordinator of FISIP Unri, Dr. Tantri Puspita Yazid, S.I.Kom., M.A., added that the screening was conducted to assess the film’s impact and public reception. Feedback from lecturers, students, and practitioners is expected to strengthen the team’s preparation for the national competition.

The Lancang Kuning Team, led by Peter Y. P. Sipahutar with members Nur Wachida Olivia, Malvin Hariyanto, and Amirul Firdaus—developed the film based on real student experiences and personal reflections. Combining research, direct observation, creative storytelling, and collaboration with professional psychologist Sarah Aurelia Saragih, M.Psi., Psychologist from Kinnera Psychological Services Pekanbaru, the team successfully presented a docudrama that is emotionally engaging while offering practical insights on peer counseling and social support.

FISIP UNRI is optimistic that “Tentang Mengerti” will be a significant step in strengthening the faculty’s presence in LIDM 2025. Beyond the competition, this activity reinforces the faculty’s dedication to fostering an academic environment that encourages creativity, experimentation, and student awareness of social issues. With full support from the dean’s office, FISIP Universitas Riau remains committed to producing innovative works that bring real benefits to society and elevate the university’s recognition at the national level.
